EMILY INIEKIO

HCPC/BAAT registered art psychotherapist, talking therapist & counsellor

Sometimes it can feel difficult or almost impossible to share what's hurting you. Seeking help through therapy can feel like a daunting task, but it can also be the first big step to healing from within.

I am a registered accredited psychotherapist with a masters in art psychotherapy. My practice model is integrative with strands of psychodynamic psychoanalitical therapy, informed by Jungian theory. I am also trained in CBT, solution-focused therapy, mindfullness and clinical supervision.

ABOUT THERAPY

Here to support your specific needs

I offer online sessions in individual therapy, family therapy, couples therapy and art therapy.

I have worked with people suffering from depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, eating disorders, personality disorders, bi-polar disorder, suicidal ideation, self-harm, low self-worth and many other mental health conditions. I work with both adults, young children and adolescents.

I work in a holistic, embodied and creative way during my sessions. Sometimes communicating your feelings verbally can feel hard. I can use many other creative avenues to explore difficult feelings and relfect together. This may be through breathing exercises, creative expression, relaxation techniques and take home tasks.

Perhaps you're down or anxious - maybe you're unsure about the future of a relationship, or just feel that you aren't living the life you were meant to lead. Whatever your needs may be, I am here to offer support. Therapy is a process of growth, reflection and self-discovery. I have the tools and professional experience to help you get back on track.

GET TO KNOW ME

I am a HCPC/BAAT registered art pyschotherapist, talking therapist, counsellor, supervisor and artist

I originally studied fine art to masters level and worked as an artist for many years. In 2014, I volunteered in a hospice running an art group for many of their patients. This was a transformative experience for me. I discovered the healing power of art and its incredible affect on mental wellbeing. Sometimes patients simply needed someone to sit down beside them, talk and explore their art together in a supportive, confidential way.

I completed my masters degree in Art Psychotherapy from Roehampton University in 2017. While completing my masters degree, I worked in a forensics hospital where I treated patients suffering from psychosis, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, suicidal ideation, self-harm, co-morbidities and a range of personality disorders. I worked in the male ward, adolescent ward and the female ward in a medium secure setting, where I facilitated group and individual sessions for many patients. I wrote my thesis on female violence and the possibilities of healing through art psychotherapy.

After graduating, I worked for Inclusion Barnet - a mental health and disability charity, MIND - where I worked with a range of personality disorders and Place2Be, a children's mental health charity. There, I worked as a clinical manager and supervisor, supporting children, adolescents and staff through time-limited solution focused psychotherapy sessions.

ART THERAPY

Sometimes we are at a loss for words and we can often struggle to verbally express ourselves. Art therapy is a unique creative way to explore unconscious feelings, unspoken thoughts and deep emotions. It incoorporates creative methods of expression through drawing, painting, model making, collage and many other creative media. You don't have to be 'good at art' for art therapy to work for you!
